Installing laminate flooring is a great way to update any room in your home. It is an affordable option that offers the look of real hardwood, but with much less maintenance. Plus, it’s easy to install and can be done by almost anyone.

Step One: Gather Your Materials

Before you start installing your laminate flooring, make sure you have all the materials you need. This includes the laminate boards, underlayment, spacers, a pull bar, tapping block, and a saw. You may need additional materials, depending on the specific project.

Step Two: Prepare the Subfloor

Before you start laying your laminate planks, make sure the subfloor is clean and level. If there is any debris, vacuum it up. If the subfloor is uneven, you may need to install a subfloor before proceeding.

Step Three: Install the Underlayment

The underlayment is a layer of foam that is laid down before the laminate planks are installed. It helps protect the planks from moisture and provides a uniform surface for the planks to rest on. Make sure to cut the underlayment to fit the room and butt the seams together tightly.

Step Four: Start Installing the Laminate Planks

Once the underlayment is in place, you can start laying the laminate planks. Begin by laying the first plank along the longest wall. Make sure to leave a gap of at least 1/4 inch between the plank and the wall. Use spacers to ensure the gap is even throughout the room.

Step Five: Secure the Planks

Once all the planks are in place, you need to secure them. This is done using a pull bar and tapping block. Place the pull bar on the plank, and then use the tapping block to gently tap the plank into place. Make sure to check the planks for gaps between them and make sure they are all securely in place.

Step Six: Finishing Touches

Once all the planks are in place, you can start adding the finishing touches. This includes trimming any excess laminate, adding transition strips, or adding baseboards or quarter round. These will help to complete the look of your laminate flooring.
